Wedding of Amanda and Merrill

I’m delighted to be posting further on the wedding of Amanda and Merrill which took place on a snowy day in December. The couple were a joy to work with and their vision never faltered from start to finish as they set out (with our help) to plan an unforgettably elegant and grand occasion.

It was important to Amanda and Merrill to design a really special marriage ceremony and lots of attention was paid to each aspect of the ceremony to thrill and warm the hearts of their guests in everyway from sight to smell to sound.

There was a stunning and luscious central arch built painstakingly by the talented team at Hybrid Flowers accompanied by other freestanding and ledge-top arrangements elegantly lined up along the aisle.

The Kingdom Choir were a huge hit as they sung Amanda in to ‘Songbird’, and hailed the happy couple to ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ naturally!

A symbolic unity candle was lit by the couple from individual candles lit by both the bride and groom’s mothers to signify the coming together of two familes into one.

Flowers and elegant detailing were a huge part of this warm winter wedding and we’ll show much more on that in a future post.

Your day your way

We were thrilled recently to learn that one of our 2008 weddings was featured in the December/January 2010 issue of the glossy flower mag, Wedding Flowers.  The nuptials of Noor and Alan feature under ‘Autumnal Elegance’ within the issue.  Here’s the cover to look out for!

Tidy Confetti Cones

Those who know me well, know that my own natural style is pretty organised, structural and tidy. As a result I particularly like things which tick those boxes and it’s probably no surprise that I like an ordered confetti cone carrier! These ones from Cox and Cox are not new on the market but they are still a favourite of mine – such a simple design where the cone pops into the specially prepared ivory base and can be carried round to guests for them to remove neatly.  Ideal for confetti on the move for an ordered bride with a simple, elegant theme.

The wedding theme and its mystery status

It was in reading some recent wedding-related fiction that it dawned on me that the mystery surrounding themes, schemes  and design for weddings still exists and can be very confusing.

What do we mean by theme and design and do you need to worry about it? Some people imagine that having a theme is a very exotic and expensive statement and not for your typical wedding. Or more likely, imaginations run wild and images of children’s parties, fancy dress and over the top decorations  all spring to mind and for most brides this is absolutely not what they have in mind for an elegant and timeless wedding celebration.

But theme need not mean this and in most wedding celebrations it does not, my fictional book excluded! For the most part, our clients want to inject their personalities into the wedding in some way so this can be viewed as a theme, albeit not a ‘named’ one. Often they want a certain ‘feel’ to the day such as rustic and cute or elegant and grand and the venue and all suppliers are carefully chosen bearing this ‘feel’ in mind. The theme might naturally lead to the use of certain colours in stationery or table décor (gold and silver are opulent, often elegant colours) as do certain textures and materials (raffia, wicker, twine, natural linen are all quite rustic/country style in feel). These are all things that help develop a theme and a mood on the day and there is not a cowboy hat in sight!

And don’t worry about having a theme from the start; it might develop over time and you may just decide to stick to the use of certain colours.  By paying attention to the little details such as the look of the table (being careful not to overfill) and the overall look of the room you will most certainly have a unique wedding.

And for every rule there is an exception. By far our most highly themed  wedding celebration to date involved a tour through Russia, Morocco and a circus workshop via a very elegant and dramatic lunch! For the full story, take a look at the Wedding of Fiona and Michael.

And if you fancy a wedding related light summer read, I can recommend Revenge of the Wedding Planner by Sharon Owens. The book and story is great fun, although neither the Halloween related Pagan wedding of rockstars nor the day to day detail of the job bears any resemblance to our wedding planning reality here at The Bespoke Wedding Company!

Design Tip

Pay attention to lighting. Good and effective lighting that enhances the mood can make a huge difference. How often do you avoid a restaurant if it looks too brightly lit for your romantic meal out? I certainly do and the same applies to weddings. Look at the overhead lighting on offer in your venue or marquee and see if it dims or brightens bearing in mind that the time of day you will be there might be different to the time your wedding will be. Look at adding candles onto tables which can add a lovely glow as night sets. Consider hiring in uplighters which can give a fantastic colour wash to a room – ambers and golds work well with woods but white is the most fabulous backdrop and you get a fantastic glow with purples and pinks or indeed with LED you can change during the course of the day and evening according to your mood!
