Wedding of Amanda and Merrill

I’m delighted to give the tiniest of sneak previews here of one of our recent winter weddings. And winter it was, we had more than a flurry of snow to herald the bride’s arrival on horse and carriage at the grandiose Blenheim Palace

But more about that and the beautiful theme to this wedding in future posts.  For now I’ll leave you with an image of the lovely couple.  Thanks to PR Photography for the use of these images.

Your day your way

We were thrilled recently to learn that one of our 2008 weddings was featured in the December/January 2010 issue of the glossy flower mag, Wedding Flowers.  The nuptials of Noor and Alan feature under ‘Autumnal Elegance’ within the issue.  Here’s the cover to look out for!

Wedding of Sonia and Will

As the Christmas music is belting out and the waft of our White Company Winter candle sets us in the toasty festive spirit in the Bespoke office, it feels strange to be reviewing photos of a glorious late summers day wedding for our blog.

But we have wanted to share some images of the wedding of Sonia and Will we were privileged to be involved with, so here goes:

 SW 170

This was very much a quintessential “Oxford” occasion with the marriage ceremony taking place at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin.

SW 237

And the reception was a very elegant and stylish affair taking place in one of  Oxfordshire’s most welcoming, homely but grand Stately Homes.  One of our favourite images is of Sonia and Will framed in the grand doorway leading to the terrace looking over their grounds for the day!

The colour scheme for the wedding was a fresh yet delicate blend which worked beautifully within the classic setting. We loved the choice of long banqueting style tables for the wedding breakfast which are proving very popular at the moment.

Thanks to Brown and Co for the use of the images from the wedding day.  Thanks also to Eden Flowers for the stunning blooms.  And the seating plan was all the work of Sonia and Will themselves!

Wedding of Rachel and Mark – Part 2

We promised more on the recent-ish nuptials of Rachel and Mark at Great Fosters.  Today we show you some of the lovely design details which featured in their classic and elegant reception.

Luscious flowers were important to Rachel and the table centres made use of the venues own charming candelabra.

Each place setting was thoughtfully prepared with gold charger plate, pocket-folded damask ivory napkin, gold foil-blocked menu and place card combo and individual box of Godiva pralines.

And after a sumptious wedding meal, there was the symbolic cake cutting. The multi flavoured cake featured an intricate rose design to match the key wedding flowers, dusted lightly in gold.

We love ribbon

Here at Bespoke, we are always armed with reels of ribbon at our weddings.

It comes in handy for all sorts of little last minute touches which make a big difference. We therefore find ourselves a little addicted to ribbons and love some of the offerings on one of our favourite sites Cox and Cox. Their spools of ‘Luxembourg Ribbon’ in delicate shades of pink, sage green, ivory and chocolate are lovely to wrap around napkins, or decorate glasses with pretty little bows. We also really like the ‘To Have and To Hold Ribbon’ made in soft ivory and old rose pink; it’s great for tying around flowers or special gifts.

And if you’re ribbon addicts like us (and are based in London) you might like to drop by Barnett Lawson. It’s a little gem of a place and a real treasure trove full to the brim with ribbons and trimmings galore.

New Find – Dance Floor Decals

We came across this new little touch the other day whilst perusing our latest copy of US wedding magazine, Modern Bride.

We thought the dance floor decals from Cathys Concepts were a lovely way of adding a little splash of colour and personalising to you and your wedding, especially if you have a dancefloor which is not being used for showcasing the wedding cake. There are lots of options on design but naturally we like the elegance one.

We have yet to come across these in the UK, although we’re sure it won’t be long!

Zingy – The Wedding of Sally and Dominic

We were privileged to help Sally and Dominic with the planning of certain aspects of their wonderfully unique wedding celebration at Stoke Place last weekend.

The couple decided upon an unusual combo of hot, rose and blush pinks teamed with zingy greens/yellows and a dash of classic grey; it worked a treat and we hope you agree from the photos taken by the talented Helen Maybanks.  Sally and Dominic even made their own confetti using tissue paper as they couldn’t find the right shades out there ready-made!

Design Tip – Don’t overdo the tables!

It’s very tempting to go with all the things you love in designing your wedding reception (there are so many beautiful ideas out there) particularly when it comes to deciding the look of the tables.

But if we can give one tip from our years in planning elegant weddings, it’s to resist the urge to over-do it and buy everything and overload the tables.

A lot of brides don’t have the opportunity to view an actual dining table set up ahead of their wedding day but, if you do, pay attention to how much space there really is once the basic catering set-up is laid down. There will certainly be at least 2 glasses but maybe 4, full cutlery, napkin, sometimes a charger plate and probably side plates for bread. Without that in mind it can be easy to overfill the tables with crackers, confetti, candles and more when almost always “less is more”. A stunning floral table centre is always a winner with round tables and it’s lovely to follow your theme through to perhaps a menu card and place card per guest, a prettily folded napkin with flower head or pretty ribbon and perhaps a little gift or bridal favour.

Tip for the Day: Make sure that you get the chance to take the look of the room in before the guests enter; we always make a point of showing our brides the room once it’s completely ready; it’s the beautiful result of their vision and lots of hard work.

Tidy Confetti Cones

Those who know me well, know that my own natural style is pretty organised, structural and tidy. As a result I particularly like things which tick those boxes and it’s probably no surprise that I like an ordered confetti cone carrier! These ones from Cox and Cox are not new on the market but they are still a favourite of mine – such a simple design where the cone pops into the specially prepared ivory base and can be carried round to guests for them to remove neatly.  Ideal for confetti on the move for an ordered bride with a simple, elegant theme.
